Synopsis

Commissioned for UTA Artist Space, Dreamweavers was a landmark contemporary exhibition presented by Swizz Beatz and curated by Nicola Vassell that examined Black identity, surrealism, and institutional mythmaking. To ground the exhibition’s thesis, Sylvia Zakhary and Sing J Lee were commissioned to direct a high-concept film and an intimate In Conversation dialogue series featuring visionary artists including Arthur Jafa, Carrie Mae Weems, Kahlil Joseph, Kerry James Marshall, Deana Lawson, and Theaster Gates. Merging fine art preservation, cinematic direction, and critical discourse, the project served as an enduring cultural artifact—immortalizing the visual languages, formal rigorousness, and creative liberation defining modern art history
